ABOUT
Hi. My name is Frankie Lasagna. My family, friends and I have just opened a restaurant, at 372 Harbord St. called Terrazza. My story actually begins several years ago, when my Dad, Phil, decided he wanted to open a restaurant. Dad grew up on Shaw St. and spent the first 25 years of his life in this neighbourhood. Across the street from his home, on the corner of Shaw & Harbord was a property where 2 of his friends, Suzie & Heidi lived. Their mom Anita ran a small hair salon at the side of their property on Harbord St. Dad liked this property and hoped one day to own it. The opportunity came the year after I was born. You see, my Dad also wanted to have his own restaurant and he knew that this property would be perfect. The property included 3 apartments on Shaw St and a small commercial space that was a hair salon, plus a 3 car garage on Harbord St. In 1986 Dad bought the property and the process of creating a restaurant began. Dad built an extension that joined the 3 car garage to the commercial space. In 1988, when I was 3 years old, Dad opened LIPS, a fast food restaurant that catered to the local high school crowd. He became well known for serving one of the best burgers in the area. My Mom, Dad, sister and I, moved into one of the apartments in the house attached to the restaurant and I spent lots of time hanging around Lips. While it was fun growing up there, Dad got tired of it after 10 years and decided to leave the business. He leased it out after that…..just as I started developing a passion for food. As a teenager, I had the opportunity to work at Joso’s and it was at this point that I knew I also wanted to have my own restaurant. In 2008, this space became available and my Dad gave me the opportunity to run my own restaurant. After careful thought I decided to take the plunge. With the help of COZ Design my Dad has created a beautiful restaurant that I run with my Mom. I have also moved back into the apartment we lived in when Dad had LIPS. My goal is to create a warm, inviting atmosphere that serves simple, good food. Terrazza is a casual place where friends and neighbours can gather for a good time. Food and entertaining have always been an integral part of our family life. My menu is small and features Pizzas, Panini, Pastas and Salads. I have also re-introduced the burger my Dad created called the “Fat Lip”. We have an outdoor patio and the dining room, which used to be the 3 car garage, has doors that open up in the summer. I hope that you will join us at Terrazza to taste our tradition of hospitality. Bring your family to ours! Hope to see you soon!
